A List of Things You Can Do

The best way to help bees in your backyard is to realize that they evolved to live here in Colorado without help from people at all. A natural environment is all they need. Unfortunately, people like to alter their environment, so a bit of knowledge about native bees can help us support them. Remember that bees need both nesting sites and food plants in order to survive and reproduce. A bit of bare ground provides nesting places for ground nesting bees and a place to gather mud for mason bees. A fallen log or a stump with holes drilled into it provides nesting habitat for solitary wood-nesting bees. Plant some native plants for their food and keep your yard pesticide free. Bees are very susceptible to insecticides! These simple steps are really all bees need to thrive in your yard.
